The adobe of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva Haridwar is situated on the right bank of the Ganga river, at the foothills of the Shivalik ranges is one of the holiest places in India, is it also knows as the gateway to heaven.

Haridwar, hari means lord Vishnu and dwar means gateway so it is the gateway for Lord Vishnu known as Badrinath but some say it as Hardwar har means Lord Shiva and dwar represents gate so it is the gateway to Lord Shiva which is Kedarnath.

Why Haridwar is called as one of the holiest places in India.
According to the mythology during Samudra Manthan, Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nashik, and Prayagraj is one of four sites where drops of Amrit (the elixir of immortality), accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the bird Garuda. Brahma Kund, the spot where the Amrit fell, is located at Har ki Pauri and is considered to be the most sacred ghat of Haridwar. It is the place where millions of people gathered and do ritualistic bathing to whitewash their sins to attend Moksha every year. So they can get a place in Heaven.

There are five tirth in Haridwar which include Gangadwar(har ki Pauri), , BilwaTeerth (Mansa Devi Temple), Neel parvat(Chandi Devi temple), Kushavarta ghat, and kankhal.

Har ki Pauri (Gangadwar):– This is the place according to mythology where king Bhagirath did austerity to invites Goddess River Ganga to whitewash the sins of his ancestors and help them to attain the Moksha. This is the place where the river Ganga descends from the hills to enter the indo-Gangetic plains for the first time, that’s why it is called Gangadwar.
Har means Lord Shiva and pauri means stairs. So this place to connect to the Lord Shiva, in har ki Pauri Brahma Kund is the place where elixir drops, so according to the folks by bathing here you can whitewash all your sins and can attain Moksha.
thus it is considered the holiest and sacred ghat of Haridwar. This is manifested as the Kumbha Mela. This mela is celebrated every 12 years in Haridwar. During Kumbh Mela, millions of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists gather in Haridwar to perform holy bathing on the banks of the river Ganges to wash away their sins to attain Moksha. Kumbh Mela said to be the largest congregation of humanity anywhere in the world celebrated once in every 12 years.

Ganga Aarti is a religious prayer that takes place at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar, without fail, every day of the year. This special evening prayer attracts tourists and devotees from all over the world. The aarti seems to be a festival of light and sound where the priests perform the prayer rituals with bowls of fire, ringing the temple bells and blowing conch shells. This aarti along with Ganga Maiyya pays tribute to Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara.

Bilwa teerth(Mansa Devi Temple):— This is called bilwa teerth because it located at bilwa parvat on the range of shivalik hills. Mansi Devi Temple is located here. As per mythology, Mansa Devi originated from the mind of Lord Shiva… Mansa means wish so as per folks by visiting this temple everyone’s wishes come true if he is a true believer and devotee. this is the reason it is known as sidh peeth.

Neel Parvat(Chandi Devi Temple):-According to the mythology, there were two demons Chand and Mund who were so cruel to the people to get the people reliefs over from them goddess Chandi Devi killed him. That’s why this place is called Chandi Devi.It is located on the range of Neel Parvat.

Maya Devi Temple:- Maya Devi is the deity of Haridwar, she is the three-headed and four arms deity goddess due to this Haridwar was previously known as Mayapuri. It is believed that the heart and navel of Devi Sati fallen here. During Navratra and Kumbh Mela, this place is visited.

Kushavarta ghat:-Here thousands of devotees perform their rituals regarding the shraddha of a dead person. It is a very sacred ghat. Monk Dattatreya’s historical story is related to this Ghat. Here you will found the data of all your ancestor with their name everything and you can also record your data here with your priest.

Kankhal:-Kankhal is known for Daksheshwara Mahadev Temple.according to the mythology, Prajapati Daksha was the father of Mata Sati and he was not happy regarding the marriage of Mata Sati and lord shiva… so to take revenge Daksha performed a Yagya in which he invited all the god but didn’t invite lord shiva, due to this Mata Sati feel insulted and burnt her body inside the Yagya after this the shiva felt angry and behead Daksha in front of all god later on the request lord shiva bestow the head of the goat.
